Digital Communications Highlights: October 2014

Not that I purposefully planned it this way, but when going though my list of potential highlights for the month of October, it seems most all of the articles that made the cut either have fairly long titles and/or are a top 10 list of one sort or another.

Even so,  per usual, I offer a lucky seven items of interest.

UPenn Students Can Now Pay Money to Take a Class Called ‘Wasting Time on the Internet’: Get this, you may already qualify for credit at an Ivy League school. The University of Pennsylvania (my alma mater) is offering a new course, “Wasting Time on the Internet,” where students are required to surf the net for three hours and only interact through chat rooms, bots, social media and listservs. New York

26% Of All Online Viewing Happens With Mobile Devices, But Few Finish What They Start: Adobe released its U.S. Digital Video Benchmark Index for Q2 that shows gigantic growth in online video viewership. Monthly unique viewership rose 146% in the last year and 85% in the last six months. Ah, but here’s the rub: The report says, less than 17% of videos started on a mobile device reach 75% completion.
